The Rocking Machine

Sculpture by Herman Makkink

(1937-2013)

This kinetic work was made by Makkink in 1969, in his London studio at St Katharine's Docks. It gained iconic status after being discovered by director Stanley Kubrick who gave it a central role in

his movie 'A Clockwork Orange' (1971) along with another Makkink multiple, Christ Unlimited. The Herman Makkink Estate holds the copyrights for the original work and is now developing a new edition of the Rocking Machine and Christ Unlimited.
